How do we select future residents?
We select future residents based on their ability to add to the diversity of our residences, engage with like-minded residents and make positive contributions to the residential community.
General criteria
If you’re applying to stay at the University, we need to make sure:
- You meet (or have met) the University Entrance requirements.
- You’ve applied, or will apply, for full-time study at The University of Auckland.
- All legal checks are passed.
- You live more than an hour away from The University of Auckland.
For domestic students, we’ll need to have
- A completed Common Confidential Reference form; or
- Two written referee statements from appropriate referees.
For international students, we might need
- An International Student Reference form; or
- Two written referee statements from appropriate referees.
Selection priority groups
For some applicants, we will happily provide an offer of accommodation straight away – a place that will be confirmed once we have done the provisional checks mentioned above.
These offers will be given to
- Those who pass NCEA Level 2 with Merit or Excellence (or the CIE equivalent).
- Recipients of The University of Auckland Scholarship or the Chancellor’s Award for Top Māori and Pacific Island Students.
- Those awarded School Dux.
- Applicants with proven outstanding cultural, leadership, sporting or community achievements.
- Māori or Pacific Island applicants.
- Women who intend on studying engineering or physical or computational sciences.
- Men who intend on studying either Education or Nursing.
- International student applicants under the age of 18 years.
