O'Rorke Hall

Located at 16 Mount Street, Auckland City, O'Rorke Hall houses 352 students in a modern twelve-storey building five minutes walk from the city campus and close to the city's attractions.

About O'Rorke Hall

The Hall is known for its lively student community and the variety of activities organised by the team of Residential Assistants. Personal support is offered to the residents by Ruben Katigbak (Residential Manager) and Annalise Davidson (Operational Manager).

Residents enjoy the use of an in-house library, computer room, games room and music room. A volleyball court and large barbecue patio are popular outdoors relaxation areas. Three meals daily are served in the newly refurbished dining hall. Broadband internet access through the Resnet system is available in all rooms.

Tour groups, sport teams and conference delegates can stay at O’Rorke over summer at special rates. Prebooking is essential.

Rooms and pods

Accommodation is in comfortable, fully-furnished single bedrooms.

Four to seven rooms make up a "pod". Residents of a pod share a bathroom with a separate lockable shower, separate toilet and dual vanity. Limited single-sex pods are available on request.

Each floor has a large common room with a television and a kitchenette equipped with a stove, fridge, toaster and kettle. There are on average 35 residents on each floor. Two floors are allocated to senior or postgraduate students.

General

  • Security access system
  • Wheelchair access throughout. Several accommodation pods designed/modified for mobility impaired students.
  • Smoking permitted only outside buildings in designated areas. Bedrooms, balconies and common areas are strictly non-smoking. (From 2010 all University campuses will be smoke free environments).

Catering

  • Three nutritious meals a day are served in the communal dining hall
  • Vegetarian, halal and meat options are available at lunch and dinner.
  • Packed lunches and late dinners by arrangement
  • Formal dinners and organised functions throughout the year
  • Suppers throughout exam periods
  • Kitchenette with fridge, microwave and oven on each floor (in the common room) to make snacks

  • Study/reference library
  • Computer lab with 10 PCs, A4 laser jet printer and photocopier (charges apply)
  • Internet connection in all rooms at no extra charge
  • Study skills workshops and informal study groups

  • Music practice room with baby grand piano
  • Big screen SKY television lounge.
  • Common room with television on each floor
  • Large outdoor BBQ patio

  • All weather floodlit volleyball court
  • Games room with two pool tables, Foozeball table, darts and table tennis
  • University Recreation Centre a two minute walk away - membership is included in your fees
  • Auckland Domain is a ten minute walk away.

  • Garden and grounds regularly maintained
  • Blankets, pillow and bed linen provided. Please bring your own towels.
  • Communal coin operated laundry. Washer @ $2 per load (2 x $1 coins). Dryer @ $2 (2 x $1 coins) per load
  • Telephones for local dialing on each floor
  • Limited swipe card security access covered parking for $30 per week
  • Lockable bike shed
