Located at 40 Seafield View Road, Grafton, Grafton Hall is home to 204 students from all over New Zealand and the world.

About Grafton Hall

Grafton Hall is situated near the Grafton and City campuses, within easy walking distance of the Domain, Newmarket and the CBD. The nine-storey tower complex and three adjoining residential houses are set in an attractive garden with expansive lawns.

Residents choose between single or twin-share rooms with shared bathrooms. Recreational facilities include table tennis, a pool table, and lounge with Sky TV and projector. Study facilities include Broadband internet access and a study room. Pastoral support is provided by the Residential Team, led by Greg Oates (Head of Hall) and Heather Kitching (Deputy Head of Hall).

Summer vacation accommodation at Grafton Hall is available for short or longer-term stays through the summer period - including Summer School - with full meals provided from mid-November to February.

Rooms

Accommodation is in comfortable fully-furnished study bedrooms. There are 131 single rooms. Seventy-two residents occupy twin-share rooms.

There are unisex communal bathrooms/toilets and showers on all floors, and two floors also have baths.

Facilities

General

  • Smoking is only permitted outside the buildings in designated areas. Bedrooms/common areas are strictly non-smoking. (From 2010 all University campuses will be smoke free environments).
  • No wheelchair access

Catering

  • Three nutritious meals daily in the communal dining hall
  • Vegetarian, halal and meat options available at lunch and dinner
  • Packed lunches and late dinners by arrangement
  • Formal dinners and organised functions throughout the year
  • Tea/coffee/hot chocolate available 24 hours
  • Small kitchenette available for casual cooking and light snacks
  • Vending machines

  • Study and tutorial groups
  • Every room cabled for own computer/telephone (Telecom charge)
  • Computer lab equipped with four computers, printer and scanner
  • Access to Hall network, internet and printing from computer lab or room
  • Colour printing and photocopying available

Entertainment and recreation

  • Three lounges - two with Sky Digital television, one with big screen TV, surround sound and DVD player
  • Two pianos - one in music practice room, one in dining room

Sporting

  • Tennis court, sports field, volleyball, basketball hoop
  • Games room with pool table and table tennis
  • Auckland Domain is a five minute walk away.
  • University Recreation Centre is a 15 minute walk away - membership is included in your fees.

Pastoral care

  • All residential managers live on-site.
  • Residential Assistants live on-site and are located throughout the building.
  • Duty person available 24 hours.
