Grafton Hall

This nine storey hall of residence with its three adjoining residential houses is home to over 200 students each year, and is conveniently located on our Grafton Campus with only a 15 minute walk to our City Campus.

About the hall

Grafton Hall is a nine-storey, fully-catered hall of residence, set in an attractive garden with expansive lawns.

It is situated on our Grafton Campus, making it convenient to those studying at our Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences; and for those who study at the City Campus, it is an easy 15 minute walk away from our General Library.

The Residential Management team which consists of the Area Manager, Resident Manager, Area Co-Ordinator, Area Officer and Resident Advisors provide personal support throughout your stay and arrange a number of social and recreational activities during the year.

There are 36 twin-share (70 beds) and 132 single, fully furnished bedrooms, with blankets, pillows and bed linen provided (you'll need to bring your own towels). Grafton Hall also offers a weekly linen exchange.

Each room has broadband internet access, provided at no additional cost. Rooms are cabled if you wish to bring your own telephone but please note that Telecom charge rates will apply.

There are unisex communal showers and toilets on all floors.

Grafton Hall is fully catered, offering you three nutritious meals a day, served in the dining hall. Vegetarian and meat options are available for lunch and dinner. For those times when you're busy, you can arrange for a packed lunch and late dinners.

There is also a small kitchenette for casual cooking and light snacks and there is tea, coffee and hot chocolate available at all times. There are vending machines on site, if you're looking for a quick snack.

The Resident Advisors organise formal dinners and functions throughout the year.

Recreation facilities at Grafton Hall include:

  • 2 communal lounges with Sky Digital available, one offers a big screen TV, surround sound and a DVD player.
  • 2 pianos.
  • Outdoor court for tennis, volleyball or basketball.
  • Games room with a pool table and table tennis.

Membership to the University Recreation Center is included in your fees and you're only a 15 minute walk away from using that facility.

There is a social and recreation events programme organised by the Residential Management team so be sure you take part.

And if you're in need of a large open space, the Auckland Domain is a five minute walk away.

Study Space

There is a study room available for individual study or private group work and there are mentoring, and study groups available if you want help studying.

You have access to the Residential Hall Network (ResNet) meaning you can access the internet and printing services from the lab and from your room. Wifi access is also available in communal areas such as the study room, dining room and lounge.

Our computer lab is equipped with four computers, a printer and scanner. Colour printing and photocopying is available.
